MCKINNEY - More than 1,000 members and others gathered Sunday, March 26, to celebrate the opening of Anchor Church’s 26,200-square-foot home in Mckinney’s growing Bloomdale area. It’s the first phase of an $11.5 million project for the nondenominational church.

Construction began March 2022, delayed by COVID. The church, which began in 2015 in the home of Jeff Jenkins, founding pastor’s McKinney home, bounced around to temporary worship sites at local schools and another area church, but boasts 500 members and is growing fast.

The church building includes 600 seats and capacity for 150 children. There’s also room for middle school and high school students, college students and adults to meet in small groups and host events and for administrative offices and a media production studio.

Construction on the second phase, which Jenkins and other church leaders could begin planning this year, looks to expand Anchor to 55,000 square feet. Members have raised most of the money and construction could include room to host more than 1,300 adults and more than 400 children per service. It could also include a preschool for 270-300 students and more space for global missions and outreach.

Anchor bought 8.2 acres from Jim Jr. and Nedra Williams and A.J. and Gloria Reed in 2019; the couples also donated 2.7 acres to the church. They attended the 9 a.m. service and were recognized by Jenkins and the congregation.

To celebrate the new home, Anchor’s members also partnered with Anna-based nonprofit Above All Things Dream Foundation on Saturday, March 25, in the church parking lot to distribute more than $10,000 in food and other items to 1,200 people in need.

Anchor is at 3921 Community Ave. Services are 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sundays. For information, go to myanchorchurch.com.
